California Redwood Giant Redwood
Secuoya sempervirens Secuoyadendron giganteum
The giant redwood is the most massive tree in the world, while the California redwood is the tallest, reaching up to 116 meters. That makes them the largest living things on Earth, and thus in the known universe. Redwoods are also the longest-lived trees. California redwoods can live more than 2,000 years and giant redwoods can live more than 3,000 years. That means that some of the redwoods alive today were born during the expansion of the first complex human civilizations; some were already alive when democracy was first established in Athens and some were already 2500 years old when Christopher Columbus sailed to the Americas.
California is the largest, most populous, and richest state in the USA. If it were an independent country, it would be the sixth largest economy in the world, behind India and ahead of the United Kingdom. California is home to a large floral ecosystem, Silicon Valley, and Hollywood.
